September 6, 2008

About 30 volunteers from the Friends of Mountain Lake Park and seven gardeners from the Recreation and Parks Department continued to work on the cleaning up of Mountain Lake Park on Saturday morning September 6, 2008. One group of volunteers cleared ivy and berries from the area north of the Ninth Avenue entrance. Another group cleared brush and undergrowth from the northeast corner of the park, opening much more of it to foot traffic. The FMLP Hospitality Committee --Yvonne Don, Colleen O'Neill and Helen Lantz organized a homemade lunch for the workers at the end of the morning.

FMLP would like to thank Rec & Park Section Manager Chuck McMackin and his gardeners Aaron, Ko and Charity for their work at the cleanup. Thanks also to roving Section Manager Dan Spillane and his crew --Russ, Joe, Gerald, Miguel-- for their hard work.

Another big thanks to Brian Hildebidle and Vanessa Stevens from the Presidio Trust not only for the generous use of the Trust's large dump truck for hauling brush but also their ongoing personal support and time to the improvement of Mountain Lake Park.

Many thanks also to Martha & Brothers at 3rd and Clement for supplying fresh coffee and to the Presidio Golf Club for lending us a golf cart to carry the coffee and water to the workers throughout the morning.
