News for Dog Owners

The dog run or Dog Play Area (DPA) as Rec and Park now calls it, occupies the extreme northeast end of the Park. It is one of the oldest and largest dog runs in the city. One can enter from 8th Avenue or West Pacific. In addition to many dogwalkers, a large contingent of neighborhood dog owners use the area every day. It also functions as a \"town square\" for the neighborhood. A combination of grass and woodchips provides ample room to run and play. There are plenty of benches for human visitors. Water and dog waste bags are provided. If you want to meet your neighbors, bring a dog to the Mt. Lake Park DPA.

Volunteers have put in a lot of labor in the past few months to spread wood chips on the dog run and the path leading to West Pacific Avenue.

Can We Teach Old Dog Owners New Tricks?

Our fundraising campaign for doggie waste bags this Spring brought in over $1500 to the badly depleted coffers of the Friends of Mt. Lake Park. A big thank you to all our dog run supporters! We did the research and chose to buy and install these biodegradable bags and dispensers. We are working with the gardeners and Rec and Park to be able to dispose of the used bags properly so they do not end up in a landfill.
